Alfonso Montefusco is a prominent figure in Italian dog breeding. He is a reporter, consultant, journalist, speaker, breeder and above all he is the author of the new, captivating book "Around the World in 80 Dogs".Alfonso has always been attracted to dogs since he was a child, and thanks to his desire to know them better and better and understand the world of dog breeding he began to study them. By doing so he was encouraged to study many subjects that are intertwined with humanities, such as geography, history, literature, languages, science, biology, and psychology; in all these disciplines dogs are present in anecdotes, fun facts, events, as a living being belonging to nature. Dog breeding is definitely part of our culture. In his work as a dog popularizer, he has realized over the years that humanity could truly be described by telling the story of dogs, so he felt the desire to share the great beauty present in this thousand-year relationship between these two very different species, yet so similar. He immediately thought that to better understand dogs it was necessary to travel around the world, which is what he ended up doing to get to know dogs! His passion for geography made him travel from one continent to another, passing from the Land of Kangaroos to the Silk Road, from the Pharaohs of Egypt to the Pygmies, from America to Europe, retracing the southern hemisphere and arriving to the northern one, deliberately choosing to land on a small island in the Azores, where a cattle breed was created and named after one island: Cao Fila de San Miguel! Alfonso Montefusco presents some of the most famous dog breeds in the world, relating them to their place of origin, crossing all the continents in a fascinating journey to discover dogs that are witnesses of places and relationships with human beings. His intent was to describe how and why different types of dogs evolved, which then over time were defined as breeds, precisely for those physical characteristics resulting from the function for which they were born. In fact, the reader is immersed in the dog's personality and attitude rather than physicality. Many readers have confessed that they searched for breeds on the web immediately after reading the book as they were curious to learn more. His personal goal is to bring us closer to the countless resources and opportunities offered by the dog and its wonderful world, mainly characterized by its relationships with us. Making us understand what is behind the shape of the tail, the length of the hair, the size of the head, the design of the ears or just the color, revealing the ancient roots that are lost in the evolution of our society. And at the same time make it clear that the word "natural" has much deeper peculiarities than what one is led to think. Alfonso Montefusco is already working on a new book, this time focused on changing relationships, examining those aspects of the coexistence of dogs and people through human psychology. Very often the question "why do you want a dog?" has truly fascinating implications.
