“I don't have any money… My dog ate it.” A man in Argentina got home and found a nasty surprise waiting for him: his dog, seized by who knows what atavistic appetite or rather desire for chaos and mischief, chewed up about 30 thousand pesos... So, just for fun a “gypsy girl”. It is not unusual for a dog, especially if it is of a particularly "playful" nature, to get up to real mischief to spite us: this especially happens when the dog is left alone. For us it's nothing special, we're just going to work or an appointment, but there can always be that time when the dog feels abandoned (have you ever had a classic "bad day"?) And how did this parable of the money-eating dog end? The owners said they went to the bank, asking to exchange the damaged banknotes. The bank said no. Better not to risk finding some misleading information on the internet... Trust DOG·STYLE!!! 4 Dog Breeds You'll Never See (Because They're Extinct) • Turnspit Dog, known as “kitchen dog” or “wheel dog”. Like an XL-sized hamster, this little dog had only one task: to run in the wheel that was used to turn the meat on the fire... To make it run, a piece of raw meat was placed near the wheel itself. • Alpine Mastiff: believed to be an ancestor of the Saint Bernard, the Mastiff, the Newfoundland and the Great Dane; it seems it was taken to a hospice in Switzerland, at the Great St. Bernard Pass. • Russian Retriever: like the Golden Retriever (of which it is an ancestor) but larger. It was used to protect the flock and guide people in crossings of the Caucasus. • Norfolk Spaniel: ancestor of the current English Springer Spaniel. This breed was deemed unsatisfactory due to the numerous difficulties that trainers encountered in training them, however other desirable characteristics (such as bonding with the owner and talent in hunting) were maintained. The most famous dogs in History and Mythology • Argos: Odysseus' hunting dog, the first to recognize him when he returns disguised as a beggar, in one of the most moving passages of the Odyssey. Argos, now old, dies immediately after saying goodbye to its master, whom it never stopped waiting. • Garmr: a demonic dog from Norse mythology. Similar to Cerberus, it is the guardian of the Gate of Hel (the Norse underworld where all those who did not die in battle go). According to the myth, its fur is covered in blood. • Sarama: dog from Hindu mythology, owned by the storm god Indra. Characterised by four eyes and great intelligence, it is considered the mother of all dogs, which are in fact called sarameya (Sarama's offspring). • Jofi: switching from mythology to reality, Jofi was Sigmund Freud's Chow Chow, that apparently was sometimes present during his hypnosis sessions. It could be said that Jofi was a precursor of pet therapy, since it seems that Freud realized that its presence could help to make his patients feel at ease. • Gray: the faithful companion of Saint John Bosco; it seems that it followed him like a shadow and, on one occasion, protected him from the aggression of some violent men who wanted to beat him up. 7 curiosities about cats • The supposedly domesticated cat, the oldest in the world (at least the one we know about) is 9.500 years old and we know this thanks to the discovery of its tomb in Cyprus. It preceded the Egyptians by more than 4.000 years! • Veterinary Hub has calculated that a cat, on average, spends around 70% of its life sleeping... Life is long, eh? • In ancient Egypt it was customary, when a cat died, for its owners to shave their eyebrows as a sign of mourning. • A cat named Stubbs was the honorary mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for over 20 years… Remember this every time you are about to rail against any municipal administration. • Although it is a commonplace belief that cats purr only when they are happy, in reality this is not exactly the case: it still has not been understood what the reason behind cats' purrs might be or what exactly they are used for. In fact, cats purr even when they are sick, injured or while they are giving birth. • On October 18, 1963, France sent the first “cosmocat” in history into space; its name was Félicette and, unlike the first dog in space, she returned to earth safe and sound. • The painting depicting the highest number of cats (which you can see above) contains 42... Go ahead and count them!
