Maine Coon. General Appearance Maine Coons started to be popular more than a century ago being a hardy and beautiful domestic cat breed well equipped to survive the harsh New England winters. Relationship with children It is an extremely affectionate and intelligent cat and has no problem relating to children, with whom it can be very patient. Relationship with dogs The Maine Coon can coexist peacefully with any dog with a balanced character, obviously after adequate training. Openness to strangers Although it may appear reserved with new people, the Maine Coon is a very inquisitive and outgoing cat. Grooming and shedding A weekly brushing will be sufficient to make sure its fur does not tangle during normal periods, while during the shedding season it will be brushed at least a couple of times a week. Intelligence Extremely intelligent and versatile cats. They learn their own name and words for certain objects or activities very quickly.
