Jack Russell. History: The Jack Russell Terrier originated in England in the 19th century through the efforts of the Rev. John Russell. He created a breed of fox terrier to fill the need for a dog that would run with his foxhounds and be able to track down foxes and other wild animals. Two fundamentally similar types were developed, which only differ in height and proportions: a taller, square type is now known as the Parson Russell Terrier, while a shorter, proportionately slightly longer type is known as the Jack Russell Terrier. General Appearance: A strong, active, and slender working Terrier of great character with a lithe body of medium length. Its lively movement is accompanied by a sharp expression. The docking of the tail is variable, and the coat can be smooth, broken, or rough.
