ANCI presents the startup "Empethy" to raise awareness about the adoption of dogs and cats The abandonment of pets such as dogs and cats, especially during the summer period, is one of the most sadly famous problems in this country. It is estimated that around 80,000 cats and 50,000 dogs are abandoned every year, while the number of dogs and cats kept in shelters, in the hope of adoption, amounts to around 250,000. To combat this drift, ANCI supports the Campania project Empethy, a digital platform dedicated to promoting informed adoptions for dogs and cats, founded by Annamaria Barbaro and Lorenza Silvestri. The idea is to offer a real search engine (like Google Chrome or Firefox) but completely adoptionoriented, putting the user in contact with the various associations and kennels that take care of abandoned animals. Adrien Nisan walks his dog with a paraglider Adrien Nisan is so fond of his Samoyed named Ouka that he can't leave her alone even when he goes paragliding. After building a special harness (the practice of paragliding with your dog isn't exactly that widespread) and training for just over a month and a half, Ouka was already able to fly over the French Alps. A man who paraglides is not a rare thing, everyone will have happened to spot someone, perhaps in the mountains, fluttering gently in the air, enjoying a truly privileged view and a breathtaking panorama. But a dog that goes paragliding is a completely different thing and Ouka's owner knows this well, to the point of having opened an Instagram account for him (account name: ouka.sam) where he publishes all their exploits, attracting many compliments but also several criticisms, especially from those who believe that the dog cannot be comfortable at such a considerable height. Nisan responded to the controversy that, although not gifted with speech, if Ouka (or any other dog) was uncomfortable having to do something, he would be perfectly capable of making himself understood. Take your dog on the plane… he might even need a passport For all those who don't trust a dog walker or can't resist nostalgia, here are a couple of tips on bringing your dog or cat on a plane. Many companies allow travelers to bring their dog or cat with them. Many, but not all. Among the low-cost airlines that DO NOT allow animals on board, we remember EasyJet and Ryanair. Therefore it is necessary to inform yourself in advance, for example Volotea allows the transport not only of dogs and cats, but also birds (provided that they are not birds of prey, no owls or eagles so to speak) and turtles. Furthermore, from 2023 it recommends traveling in an approved carrier (45 x 39 x 21 cm). Finally, it is good to know that pets must be in possession of a European passport for travel within the EU, it costs 20 euros and is issued following a microchip or tattoo check and vaccinations recorded in the health card. Remember that the mandatory vaccine for traveling is anti-rabies, at least 21 days before the passport is issued. A teacher’s cat interrupts his owner's online class: the teacher gets fired In the Chinese city of Guangzhou, a teacher received a 40.000 yuan compensation after a wrongful dismissal settlement. An online teaching company had fired the teacher because her cat had interrupted her online class by peeping in front of her webcam, which they considered a “non-teaching" activity. The woman decided to make an appeal against this decision and Judge Liao Yajing (Guangzhou Tianhe People's Court) finally agreed with her, claiming that when employers allow their employees to work remotely, they should not have the same expectations as if they were working in an office.
