German Spitz
The German Spitz descend from the "Peat Dog" (Torfhund) or "Canis Familiaris Palustris Rütimeyer", who lived
in the peat bogs in the Stone Age, and from the later Spitz of the Villages in Stilts (Pfahlbau). ancient Central
European. Numerous other breeds originated from them. In countries where German is not spoken, German
Spitz are known as Keeshonds and Toy Spitz, as well as Pomeranian Spitz.
Spitz are dogs with a
coat that appears raised
due to the abundant un-
dercoat. Particularly strik-
ing is the collar around
the neck, similar to a
mane, and the bushy tail
carried over the back.
The fox head with alert
eyes and small pointed
ears give the Spitz its
unique, distinctive ap-
pearance.
